Tulips and Pansies '07

On May 21, hundreds joined in the Fashion Capital of the World for Village Care of New York’s annual Tulips & Pansies – The Headdress Affair, a runway show which brings together prestigious fashion and floral designers. This springtime floral fete raises funds and awareness for Village Care’s Network of AIDS Services.

The evening began with a touching video of a group of Village Care clients discussing their experiences with HIV/AIDS and the benefits of our programs. The video was made by Thaler Films with the help of our Event Host, Full Frontal Fashion’s fantastic James Aguiar. The evening’s Co-Chairs - Paper Magazine’s Mickey Boardman and style guru, Kate Schelter - were on hand as well. To kick-off the runway show, singing sensation Ultra Naté performed a song from her new CD, Grime, Silk and Thunder.

This year’s designers included Heatherette and Flora Tech, whose 1960s bouffant floral hairstyle creation came equipped with its own can of hairspray! Alvin Valley and Linda Ferrando Floral Design created an elegant fuchsia look with architectural panel construction. Another highlight was Diane von Furstenberg and Banchet Flowers who transformed a Vietnamese sun hat into an umbrella of rain flowers. Designers from Bill Blass in collaboration with L’Olivier ended the runway show with their interpretation of a naughty bride in a transparent white, beaded sheath. M.A.C. make-up artists kicked up all the designer looks with their festive and sassy make-up!

Held at Bridgewaters in Manhattan’s South Street Seaport, Tulips & Pansies was a success raising $125,000. Sponsors include Aramark, Bank of America, flowers of the world, M.A.C. AIDS Fund and Rums of Puerto Rico.
